We are a volunteer, non-profit organization providing sport, recreation training and competition to athletes with intellectual disabilities in the Capital Region.
Over 200 athletes participate in 15 programs. Every day we see the dramatic impact that Special Olympics has on everyone involved - athletes, volunteers, coaches, family members and the community.
Athletes pay a minimal fee to participate in the sport. The remaining cost of running the programs is covered by local and provincial fundraising activities.
Volunteers are the backbone of Special Olympics. We have a sound volunteer management program and actively recruit new coaches, board members and volunteers.
Special Olympics is an international organization founded by the Joseph P. Kennedy Foundation.
There are Special Olympics programs in over 180 countries!
In 1980 Special Olympics BC was established as an accredited chapter of Special Olympics Canada.
